Jazz Dance

Jazz dance is a performance dance and style that arose in the United States in the mid 20th century alongside Jazz Music. Now however, it is often associated with the dance styles found in musical theatre, films and pop music videos. Some identifying elements of jazz dance include: isolations, character performance, beautiful precision and all things high kicks and explosive jumps. At ITW, students taking jazz class will learn all about Jazz technique including elements of Fosse and Ailey technique as well as exercises based on ISTD Modern dance. If a student wants a little more push in their dance skills and performance, Jazz class is the place to be. Our Jazz class is available in ITW Clonskeagh and is divided into different age and ability levels.

Inter/Senior Technique Fusion*: Thursdays 6.45-7.45pm

Senior YA Intermediate level Jazz : Fridays 5.30-6.30pm

Senior / Young Adult Advanced level Jazz : Sundays 12.00-1.00pm

What to wear: Black leggings/Dance Shorts with ITW Jazz Leotard and split suede sole ballet or jazz shoes or bare feet. Long hair tied up in a pony tail. Dancewear can be ordered online from our ITW SHOP and will be delivered to the Studios for collection at class.

ITW Dance Company: Many of our students are also in one of the ITW Dance Companies. We have three Companies catering for the different age levels and abilities. Fosse Company for our Juniors, Khan Company for our Inters and Graham Company for our Senior/Young Adults.

They train during our dance intensives over the Summer and once or twice a week during term time and perform at Dance Platform and on the main stage at Perform Ireland. They also enter solos, duets and group numbers in various Dance Competitions in Ireland and also sometimes in the UK and further afield - we had a very successful trip to Dance Camp in Disney Paris in 2018 and will take part in Take me 2 the Magic at Disneyland Paris in March 2024.

All students in Dance Company must attend a minimum of two ITW Dance classes a week in order to maintain the required standards and auditions take place in May and August - to find out more see our DANCE COMPANIES pages on this site by clicking the links highlighted in PINK.

*Technique Fusion with Sarah Dennis:

Thursdays 6:45pm

This class is a fusion of Jazz, Ballet and Contemporary giving dancers the fundamental technique of all 3 disciplines. Inters and Seniors welcome.

Starting on the barre students will be brought through a classical ballet warm up, followed by centre work where students will work on their turns and step combinations. Corner work where students will learn alignment for kicks, traveling steps and jumps finishing up with Choreography combining all the technical steps learnt in class.

This hybrid class is suitable for all levels where beginners will learn the basics of dance technique, but more experienced students will be pushed to improved their technical ability, strength and flexibility.
