It is essential that students have the correct uniform and shoes for their class. When signing your child up for ballet or any ITW dance class, you are signing them up, not only for dance, but for lessons in discipline and hard work as well. With that, comes the ITW Dance dress code:
Although it may seem unnecessary to parents or people unfamiliar with the dance world, the dress code has been around for centuries, and exists to make class more focused and structured. Dance requires a great deal of discipline and giving your dancer a set dress code helps them to understand simple rules.
When children wear their proper dance attire, it puts them in the right mindset for what they are trying to achieve. This gets them in the mindset of learning. Plus, when children all wear their uniform, they are much less likely to be distracted by their clothing and the clothing of others.
Another reason dance dress code is important is so that teachers can properly correct the students. Ballet attire makes the lines and body placement much more visible to the instructor, and can help your child dance correctly and safely. This grows even more important the older your child gets.
Not only does the dress code help with the class, but dressing like a dancer makes you feel more...like a dancer. Students in their proper ballet or dance attire are typically so much more eager to learn and feel like they’re a part of a group that has to work together. So please, do your best to observe and adhere to the ITW Dance dress code.
If you need help with any aspect of it, please don’t hesitate to ask a staff member before or after class.
Shoes:
The ITW Dance Studio in Clonskeagh and Drumcondra are equipped a specialised dance floor that will maximise performance for jumps, turns, slides, and more. This floor is a privilege and so we will be strictly enforcing an indoor shoe only policy. No one with outdoor shoes will be allowed inside the dance studio, so please plan accordingly.
Appropriate footwear for each class should be worn (jazz shoes, ballet shoes, Bloch Omnia Sneakers or, foot thongs )
NO dancing in socks will be permitted under any circumstances as it is a health and safety risk.
ITW Junior/Inter/Senior/Young Adult Dance (membership class):
ITW T-shirt and hoodie (for Tots named after colours - Inters); all black (for Seniors and Young Adults). Black leggings or tracksuit bottoms for all. Jazz Shoes or ballet shoes. Dance shoes that are for INDOOR USE ONLY. Dance Company to wear their Dance Company Uniforms to class at all times.
Lyrical/Contemporary:
All Black: black leotard (optional), black t-shirt (Dance Studio Tee appropriate), black tights or black leggings/tracksuit bottoms, bare feet. Convertible pink tights are appropriate as well as "foot thongs".
Ballet:
Uniforms available from Dance World Ranelagh or Parnell Square and Dance Dimensions, Drumcondra
Senior ballet:
Sleeveless black leotard, Black wrap skirt (optional), Pink tights, Pink canvas or leather ballet shoes with elastics or demi pointe shoes with ribbons
Hair tied up in a bun covered with hairnet that matches your hair colour or pinned up plaits
Senior pointe class (by invitation only)
Sleeveless black leotard, Black wrap skirt (optional), Pink tights, Pointe shoes with ribbons, Toe caps, Hair tied up in a bun covered with hairnet that matches your hair colour or pinned up plaits
Extras:
Pink, blue or black ballet crossover wrap top, Calf length leg warmers (to be worn for warm ups only), NB! No hotpants may be worn for ballet classes
Hip Hop:
Dance clothing that is easy to move in (like Dance Studio Tee), Jazz Shoes or hip hop runners with non marking soles that are for INDOOR USE ONLY. These must be shoes for dance class only- regular outdoor shoes will not be permitted.
Acro:
Form fitting BLACK ACTIVEWEAR. Black t-shirt/ITW T-shirt, black leggings, leotard, tights are acceptable. Jazz Jazz shoes or foot thongs permitted, Acro cannot be done in socks so please adhere to this as much as possible.
Jazz:
All black - this may include a black leotard, black T-shirt or active wear, black leggings, black tights with jazz shoes.
Inter Dance Company:
ITW Company Leotard, black leggings, tights or tracksuit bottoms, Dance Studio Tee, black Jazz Shoes. Dance Company Uniform, Jacket, Vest and Shorts, to be ordered upon acceptance to the company.
Senior Dance Company:
Black Lace Leotard, black leggings, tights or tracksuit bottoms, Dance Studio Tee, black Jazz Shoes. Dance Company Uniform, Jacket, Vest and Shorts, to be ordered upon acceptance to the company.
